The “N” piece.
Patrick’s limited edition graphic that’s NOT listed in the book. That’s right!
Patrick has another graphic = Totaling 22. The image is published on page 9 in “The Art of Patrick Nagel” but lists the image as an acrylic on board in error. The edition size was limited to 150 signed/numbered, with only 5 known Artists Proof serigraphs. The “N” image area is 15” x 15.” An elusive piece, it is commonly referred to as “N” because the letter N is formed by the curling of the telephone cord. In 1978-79 Nagel was among a group of artists invited to Mexico City for an exhibition and instruction for young Mexican artists and illustrators, where each guest artist created an original work that contained the first letter of their last name. Nagel cleverly integrated the letter N into the telephone cord. During Nagel’s visit to Mexico City, his image was hand printed as a limited edition serigraph on a beautiful archival paper type “Dibujo Geler.” Few pieces ever became available on the US market because as rumour has it the publisher of Mirage, Karl Bornstein, was not happy about its release.
If you have one to sell please call me. I am buying. I’ve also included an image known as “Love On The Line” with a hot pink telephone seen in Playboy in November 1979. These smiling pieces were created years before his famous Duran Duran “Texas” Rio piece. More on the Playboy piece later.
